Course Information
The academic programmes offered within Respiratory Education UK lead to university accredited named awards at Diploma, Degree and Post Graduate level.
Each programme relates specifically to respiratory related care but is designed to enable individuals to AP(E)L modules in from other programmes and universities. This flexibility ensures that individuals are able to structure a pathway specifically to meet their particular needs and that of their service.
Alternative routes are also available which provide a greater degree of flexibility for individuals who may wish to study for a respiratory related award, but who do not wish or are not required to complete a full academic award. For those who do not want or need to complete an academic award, modules can be accessed on an individual basis. One or more modules can be completed in this way. This enables each student to gain the knowledge and skills they need in order to fulfil personal and professional development requirements or service needs.
The modules and awards are all delivered using blended learning approaches. As a result, each student is provided with comprehensive course materials to work through, either as hard copies or electronically, supported by structured study sessions.
This approach acknowledges the constraints that full time employment and family commitments place on individuals who are trying to study and seek to maximise learning opportunities.
Student support is of prime importance and systems and processes are in place to ensure ease of access to academic and administration staff, whose aim is to provide support and guidance relating to all aspects of study.
All programmes are open to individuals who work within health related areas. Individuals without the necessary academic qualifications may be able to use AP(E)L to access study or gain exemption out of elements of the programme. This is a formal process and advice and support is available from REUK.
Individuals who already have an academic qualification and wish to study specific aspects of respiratory care and management, via stand alone modules, may do so as Associate Students. Registering as an Associate Student will allow individuals to gain knowledge and skills without being required to submit academic assignment work. Permission to access programmes using Associate Student status may be required from managers and/or budget holders.
The teaching strategies adopted within the academic programmes encourage individuals to critically review evidence and challenge practice. The aim is always to equip practitioners with the necessary skills to utilise evidence and literature, and apply it appropriately to enhance practice and improve patient care.
