"Thank you. I feel the whole group has a passion for respiratory medicine, that is why we are doing the MSc, but what you did was alter our way of thinking about respiratory disease and gave us the knowledge and confidence to question others and ourselves, and so improve the care given to patients" Cohort 1 MSc Student - HEA 9042

This unique programme has been designed in liaison with representatives from across the professions and has been developed to meet the personal and professional needs of a range of practitioners who specialise in the area of respiratory disease management.
With three discrete exit awards and offering a range of respiratory related modules, the programme enables practitioners to negotiate a bespoke pathway that has relevance to their developmental needs. For Registrars, access to the programme can provide an appropriate clinically based alternative to research whilst for nurses and Allied Health Professional (AHPs) the programme is mapped against the 10 key roles for nurses and AHPs and facilitates the advancement of practice. GPs with a special interest may use the programme in a variety of ways in order to enhance their knowledge relating to the treatment and management of patients with respiratory diseases/disorders. Modules may also be accessed on a free standing or on an associate student basis. A comprehensive list is included overleaf.
Utilising blended learning, this part time programme uses CD based course materials complemented by classroom based and on line structured study events to enrich the learning experience. Each student would be allocated a personal tutor for the duration of the programme.
Practitioners wishing to access the programme or modules within it would be expected to complete a formal application form and would, as a minimum, have a lower second class honours degree in a health related subject. However, individuals who do not meet the entry criteria may be able to make a claim for equivalency via the AP(E)L process. Individuals may also be able to make a claim for exemption for up to one third of their chosen programme. This would be assessed on an individual basis.
Practitioners applying for the programme should be computer literate and have access to a PC. They should also be prepared to reflect upon and challenge their own practice, as appropriate, within the period of study.
