Introduction
This module aims to highlight some of the key aspects of palliative care in relation to respiratory disease, enabling the student to develop an understanding of the principles and relating relevant aspects back to their own clinical practice. This module will enable students to develop evidence-based approaches to assessment, planning and delivery of supportive, individualised care and treatment to patients with severe lung disease and in the end stages of life
Module Format
This module is run on a blended learning basis supported by a comprehensive course pack and four structured study days over 20 weeks, which will include tutorials, online and classroom-based workshops and discussions, ensuring that theory and practice are integrated
Aims
This module will enable healthcare professionals to:

Critically appraise the provision and inequalities of supportive and palliative services for respiratory patients in relation to existing literature and the students own clinical practice

Interpret clinical data and psychosocial morbidity in order to comprehensively assess, plan and implement appropriate care for patients with end stage respiratory disease with cognisance of their families and carers needs

Critically appraise the legal, ethical and moral issues in context of care provision for individuals in the end of life

Critically reflect and discuss issues pertaining to communication in end of life care including the role and responsibilities of the various multidisciplinary team members
