Utilising Evidence & Research in Practice

Introduction
This BSc module is designed to enable students to develop an understanding of the research process and the need for an evidence-base to guide decision-making in clinical practice
Module Format
This is a highly flexible module that can be studied in a variety of ways:
  • Entirely on-line
  • Entirely by classroom attendance (2 study days)
  • A combination of the two
Aims
This module will enable healthcare professionals to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the development of evidence-based practice within health care and its practical application to the clinical area
  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of research methodology and design
  • Critically evaluate methods of data collection and analysis pertaining to the health and social care arena
  • Demonstrate skills to critically appraise published research studies
  • Critically apply the process involved in the development of a research proposal, including the practical issues of obtaining ethics committee approval and research governance requirements

4,000 word assessment
This module can be studied as an independent unit of study or as a module towards the BSc (Hons) Respiratory Practice
Successful completion results in 20 academic credits at BSc level
Student support
Comprehensive course materials are provided to students.  Tutorial time supports students, with specialist staff always available by either phone, e-mail and on-line.  REUK can also advise on funding possibilities and financial support from a number of sources, we encourage students to get in touch.
